SHOE CARE: CARING FOR AND CLEANING YOUR LEATHER LOAFERS

Leather has long been the choice for high quality shoes and clothing due to its flexible and durable nature and ability to add a timeless statement to any piece. In fact, it has been the staple of the iconic G.H. Bass loafers since the very beginning in 1876, as part of our mission to create the best possible practical shoe.

If cared for properly, a good pair of leather shoes should last for years. At G.H. Bass, we are proud of the care and craftsmanship that goes into making our iconic loafers, and therefore believe they deserve the utmost care to preserve their lifespan. So, we’ve put together this short guide to help you extend the life of your favorite G.H. Bass loafers or boots.

KEEPING YOUR LEATHER AND SUEDE SHOES CLEAN

You should begin by gently removing any dirt from your loafers or boots with a soft shoe brush or cloth. Use a separate, damp clean cloth to wipe your shoe clean; for finished leather (with a polished appearance), you can dilute a small quantity of soap to clean the surface thoroughly.

For suede, you should carefully blot the shoes with water and leave them to dry with newspaper inside to ensure they hold shape. For more severe stains, dab a small amount of white vinegar onto the affected area to spot clean the suede and leave to dry.

POLISH AND SHINE

Keep your leather looking fresh with a wax polish. Using your natural applicator brush, apply a small amount to the surface and buff and shine. You might want to use a cloth to achieve a polished shine. Our specially formulated wax polish comes in black, tan and neutral to ensure the best care for all of our styles.

PROTECT YOUR LEATHER WITH A FINISHING SPRAY

Once your shoes are clean, apply an even coating of leather protector spray to the surface. Our easy-to-apply leather and suede protector spray has been formulated to repel water and dirt from your leather, suede, canvas or nubuck footwear and will help ensure longevity in your loafers for years to come.
